Acceptable Use Policy

What you may and may not do with First Mate.

Effective

About this policy

This Acceptable Use Policy is part of our Terms of Service. Breaking it can lead to us removing content, suspending or closing your account.

1. General

Use First Mate lawfully, for managing boats you own, crew, skipper or look after. You are responsible for everything done under your account and by agents you connect.

2. Don't

  • Break the law, or help someone else do it.
  • Upload content you don't have the right to share — including manufacturer manuals or builder documents you aren't licensed to share, or other people's papers.
  • Upload malware, or content that is defamatory, obscene, threatening or harms minors.
  • Try to reach a boat, account or file you weren't given access to, probe or test our security without permission, or get around access controls or rate limits.
  • Use a crew role, an invitation or a connected agent to do more than the boat's owner allowed.
  • Share sign-in links, passwords or agent tokens, or let an agent act for someone who isn't on the boat.
  • Overload or disrupt the Service, scrape it, or access it with automated tools other than the agent connections we provide.
  • Impersonate someone, or misrepresent your connection to a boat, builder or business.
  • Resell or redistribute the Service.

3. Data you shouldn't put in

Ship's papers often carry personal details, and that's fine. But don't add:

  • full payment card numbers or bank account credentials;
  • government ID numbers beyond what a ship's paper (such as a registration or radio licence) already shows;
  • health information about crew or guests (keeping a medical kit inventory is fine);
  • anything you don't have the right to collect or share.

4. Connected agents

Outside AI agents act with the access you granted, capped by your role on the boat. You are accountable for what they do. Revoke an agent you no longer use, and tell us if you think a token has leaked.

5. Reporting and enforcement

Report a violation, a security problem, or content that infringes your rights to the address below. We may investigate suspected violations, which can mean looking at the affected records. We may then warn you, remove content, suspend or close the account, or report it to the authorities. We aren't liable for reasonable action taken under this policy.

6. Changes

We may update this policy and will post the change here. Material changes follow the notice rules in our Terms.
